Anya - Rehomed

Anya is a Pure Bred Norwegian Fjord rescued from a large seizure in Alberta. Read on to find out more about this incredible breed!

We adopted Anya (Аня) from the Canadian Norwegian Fjord Horse Rescue Association.

The Norwegian Fjord Horse is the oldest breed of horse in the world, said to have been unchanged for over 2000 years!

The Incredible Little Big Horse: The Story Of The Fjord

The Norwegian Fjord Horse breed is from the mountainous regions of western Norway. It is an agile breed with a light draught horse build. All Fjord horses are dun in colour, with five variations in shade!

The Fjord is one of the world's oldest breeds and has been genetically unchanged for over 2000 years! Which means, that if you could compare a Fjord now to a Fjord 2000 years ago, they would look and be built the exact same! How cool is that?

The Norwegian Fjord Horse is a stalky breed. In general the Fjord is considered a small draft breed - their heights can range from 13 to 15 hands high. They are very strong and capable of carrying adult riders with ease.

This incredible breed has been used for hundreds of years as a working farm horse in Norway. Now the Fjord is popular for its generally good, calm temperament. It is used both as a harness horse and under saddle.

Anya's Qualities

Anya is a sweetheart with a soft grey nose and big puppy dog eyes ❤️ Anya has proven to be an excellent companion for children. She loves to stand tied for brushing and to be doted on for hours, which makes her a great candidate for "horse crazy kids" and she has fit very well into our Horsemanship Programs offered at Cariboo Blue Farm. She is careful with her feet and body and understands that humans are fragile. She is 13.4 hands high and built like a brick house with rock solid feet. She is naturally kind natured and not flighty. She is very smart, retains lessons well and loves to learn and teach others how to work with horses.
