"Blue Honeysuckle" Haskap

Cariboo Blue Farm is happy to announce we are specializing in Haskaps and they will be available for purchase once per year exclusively at Cariboo Blue Farm.

The Haskap goes by many names; Blue Honeysuckle, Honeyberry, Edible Honeysuckle, Sweet Berry Honeysuckle and its scientific name Lonicera caerulea.

Here's the recap on greatness!

First, the Haskap is incredibly hardy and easily survives hostile winters of up to minus 40 to 45, making it ideal for our Cariboo winters.

Second these wonderful berries have incredible health benefits. They are known as “The Fruit of Life Longevity and Fruit of Vision” - and, for good reason. They contain very high levels of bioactive compounds and have the highest Anthocyanin content of any fruit, WOW - take that blueberries! Phenols, Anthocyanins and Bioflavonoids compounds known as antioxidants, are associated with health promoting benefits.

Third, they are much higher in vitamin C than oranges, strawberries, and raspberries and offer a punch of minerals including calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, zinc and copper.

Fourth, the flavour is almost addicting with a very unique flavour of a cross between a blueberry, blackberry, Saskatoon and a raspberry - of course, each variety will have their own unique flavour.

Fifth, they are virtually pest free, and they have very few known diseases. Birds can acquire a taste for them cause they're so darn tasty! And, even if your green thumb is not so green, these super berry bushes are very forgiving with their soil pH requirements and easy to care for, which makes these a must have in any Cariboo garden! Aurora

This variety is mostly sweet and slightly tart with an incredibly addicting. It is a dense berry with a less delicate skin than other varieties - it can actually be machine harvested! We like to pair it with Honey Bee Haskap.

Happy Giant

The Happy Giant is sure to make you happy with its sweet flavour and touch of tartness. It is a heavy provider of large delicious, health benefiting fruit. We like to pair it with Honey Bee Haskap.

Boreal Blizzard

Boreal Blizzard is one of the largest of the Haskap family. Boreal Blizzard berries are more than twice as heavy as most other varieties aside from the Happy Giant of course. The Boreal Blizzard is compatible with Honey Bee, Happy Giant and Aurora.

Honey Bee

The Honey Bee has a lovely balanced flavour of tart and sweet. It pairs great with Aurora, Happy Giant and Boreal Blizzard as a pollinator, and gives a early July harvest.

The Blue Honeysuckle is a 'must have' in any garden. They are easy to care for and they will provide years of delicious health benefiting superberries year after year.

They do not provide instant satisfaction however, you must wait 2 years before they bear fruit - but the wait is well worth it!
